I thought of putting this in the bug section. But it isn't all bug/design flaws. Some of these textures are bloody nice. ( well done, design team! ) However, most need a little bit of tweaking, one way or another.

Hopefully the Dev team will see the thread here.

Here are all the textures I managed to get samples of so far:

    cy textures.JPG

I'd be grateful if others could post pics of the remainder.

And here's the view through the texturiser window to show how some of them will look on Basic Pattern pants:

    cy pants.JPG

So far, so good....except for the embarrassing accident triggered by getting too close to Crystal Pede :D (2nd image) This could maybe be fixed by re-scaling? ….or by avoiding putting this texture on your pants :D

Ah well, with large-patterned textures there's always a problem of splotches turning up where you really wouldn't want them

Notice the asymmetry, btw? That's MA's doing and hopefully classed as a bug. Since the FUBAR, er Avatar update, early this year , a lot of clothing was revealed to be asymmetrical , when you have texture on it. This sometimes looks good, but mostly looks awful, so hopefully it will be fixed sometime before we all die of old age. In any case, it's the item that's bugged, not the texture. (You can apply the same textures to Arkadian clothing for example, and they come out symmetrical)

JELLY TEXTURE- a major problem with scaling?

I thought Jelly texture looked gorgeous , til I tried it on a few items. Here are the results:

    jelly.JPG

Hmmm. Well this is just marvellous if you want to add great big bloodstains to your clothing in random places :D , But that isn't quite what I expected lol.

Well this is my first post with pics...and it seems to be working out OK! But I'm tired now. I'll save my other comments for the 2nd post

    jay :)

Here are some pics of my texture ( I personally discovered it today! :yay: )

    sea wraith.JPG

The T-shirt is ucoloured. The pants are coloured in blue. Again this is the view through the texuriser window. I haven't actually applied the texture (haven't got enough of it yet :D )

It took quite a few days to get a sample made up of this texture, because I tried hunting the little Sea Wraiths first and wound up concluding that they'd forgotten to add hides to drop list for this creature. Then somebody told me he's got two Sea Wraith hides and they were really high TT (1.5 PEd was it?) and the penny dropped. The creatures were far too small to drop hides of that size very often, if at all. So I asked Chief where I could find some BIG Sea wraiths.

I still didn't make a lot of texture . well, you need 3 hides to make 1 leather; 1 leather is no good, your crafting attempt might fail....

You see the problem? The hides are just too big. And the texture itself is
pretty damned high TT, so you will spend an awful long time hunting and many, many PED before you have enough texture for 1 customisable field.

For the uninitiated: It takes 323 textures to get a near-guarantee of 100% saturation of your texture , on your item (It actually takes 904 textures for an absolute guarantee. But nobody thinks it worthwhile using that many extra, to such miniscule effect . ) Most items have 2 or 3 customisable fields. So we're talking 969 PED of texture to cover an item fully with Living Vortex. This would need about 2k PED of hide to craft. (since a lot of the hide just turns to res)

Now, if you check out other planets' textures, you'll see that some really special stuff (eg the white polymer , Khorum) does carry such high TT. Also the TT of leathers (and the resulting texture) tends to rise as the difficulty of the mob increases . But none of these would seem to justify such high TT; certainly not all of them.

Even taking account of the fact that you get 90% of the TT value back in PED when the texture is applied. these are gonna be prohibitively expensive to use.

So, i think I see a bit of tweaking coming up.

A not-unrelated issueis the "recommended level" of Designer for applying the texture (recommended for disappointment, actually :D. You really need a few levels on top this to "max" the texture). Currently this is 10.0 for all the textures, every one!

That's great news for me (means I can apply the lot! :D) but otherwise crazy. I supect this is going to change in the near future! (Same thing happened with Arkadian textures, when they were first introduced ... except they all started at level 0.0 ! )

    SOLUTIONS, SOLUTIONS:

Obviously, what's needed is a wide range of textures, starting with newbie ones: The hides are very low TT and drop from newbie mobs, the texures are very low TT and have a recommended level of 0.0; and working up from there.

So all the parameters are gonna be adjusted , I guess. But a word of caution: RT adjusted the parameters on their hides and textures, for much the same reasons, and what happened? Instead of a neat rollover, with the stacks of overpriced hides and texture being magically transformed into bigger stacks of little hides and textures, we wound up with two lots of RT texture- the old RT textures (utterly useless if you didn't collect a big enough stack before the changeover) and the new RT texture *groan *

Could Cyrene devs please try and ensure that the same doesn't happen with Cyrene textures?

    Thanks!

(yep still got a bit more to say, but I'm definitely going to bed now :D )

    jay :)

Well if you encourage me with all these nice replies , I'll go on writing won't I? Hehe.

OK, in this last post I really wanted talk about Cyrene (C) items, since the textures are supposed go on something, right? (though they do look very pretty in my inventory)

On second thoughts I thought it best to create a whole new thread on that topic . Here it is

Sorry I couldn't be very enthusiastic about the shirts (what else is there?) cos I think it was a huge mistake to make them (L). But at least they kept symmetry, unlile many of the Caly counterparts... which means that the patterned textures look a whole lot better on them:
    cyrene shirts.JPG

Those are views through the texturiser window. I would love to make the shirts for real, but even if I had big enough stacks of texture (which I don't) I'd be really loathe to waste such such rare and expensive textures on cheap (L) shirts.

Notice that the front and back are different hues btw? I think that's just in the texturiser view, not the actual item, so no need to panic...I think .

I really hesitate to put texture on them at all. But it's such a nice design, from a texturer's POV, that I did anyway. I'll post the pics on thar other thread, since this one is about Cyrene textures.

Has anybody managed to get Tree Dragon hides btw? (I think this is one of those cases where hides are far too high TT for the little newbie mob it drops from)

Hey :) nice to see the Cyrene team are so on the ball (that was an incredibly fast reply! )
As you'll see, I've now added more info to my 2nd post. I have a bit more to say(if I can recall what it was :D ) but that's my main critique of the textures all done now.

I agree with Chief, glitches are entirely expected when a new planet first brings out textures. I posted this to bring your attention to problems, not complain!

I only hope for a better resolution than we got with the RT textures. Doubling up on all the textures wasn't good! And they are still not entirely right. eg hides for the adjusted newbie texture, Couger (yep, that really is how it's spelled) still drop from a not-so-newbie animal, in very small quanties. At 1 pec per hide, this is not very satisfying for the hunter! lol. Some might hope for a swift solution, but I'd rather you take your time and get it right!

    jay :)

Thanks a lot for sharing Jay, some of those look awesome imo !

I'm curious to see the Empis Wasp texture, so I hope you can get your hands on the texture bp or the texture itself in the near future !

Why can i not view these textures in auction orders available after they are discovered? Can they be put in auction?

AFAIK, they are not visible to the auction system until somebody actually tries to sell them.

    Hey jay!

You're quite welcome, we try to be involved with the players on Cyrene on the forums and in game as best we can =)

Of course! We are grateful for the feedback. (I think it came off very positively =p )

We'll definitely be looking at these and doing some adjusting and making some of them look better tiled (hopefully).
Along with that we'll be working on more textures (many of these are sort of masculine) for the next VU as well.

Thanks again, and any additional info is appreciated!

    Cheers,
    Kris

Neato I went and looted up some clothes bp and even disco one and when I saw they a lot (L) and a lot not (C) and use a material that does not hardly loot i tossed them in storage to sit there for now hehe

The textures are pretty cool but goodness me the TT of them o_O dont think I will be apply any of them at those TT per texture costs.

Best recommend is lower TT on the textures because 323 x high TT + markup = OUCHY PEDCARD

The clothes with mostly predone colors non (C) are nice but more (C) would be better and make the materials not cost a fortune to loot because demand on clothes is already very low. Every time you can get a cheep clothes with predone colors easy it hurts the color and texture profession especially when the built in colors are ones that you need stupid high color levels to use.

    (L) clothes are no point to put nice color and texture on and very rare to have people do more than cheep colors on them

Demand for clothes has always been low all the 8 years I play so anything that makes them a little more expensive or trying to make the craft materials higher markup just kills sales totally

always remember TT return on success click is in average 80 - 120% of the materials cost so a higher TT hide with a lower TT texture gives great success and if its much lower TT then you can get nice stacks of texture fast and keep markup down.

If I can make nice texture stacks there and buy materials from the locals I woudl TOTALY fly to cyrene and bring my peds to the local players to give me materials to make textures to put on clothes for sales in my shops on 3 other planets :D and one day get a shop on cyrene too :D

    PM sent with more details.

Another interesting point re. Cyrene texures (meant to raise this in OP but forgot . D'oh):

I notice that none of non-cyene -specific texture prints drop on Cyrene. Is this deliberate? There are always players grumbling on Arkadia about too many "Caly" texture prints dropping, so I'm wondering if Cyrene decided to preclude such complaints?

The logic behind this complaint is, that Exarasaur skins etc are not available on Arkadia, thus the prints are useless there. And people think they will get more of the desirable Arkadia-specific prints if not for all the "Caly prints".

Actually, the 2nd point is dead wrong. As Cyrene proves, without those "Caly" prints, you just get a whole lot fewer prints in your loot.

Worse, most of these so-called Caly prints are for materials that are available on all planets: natural stones, generic leather, wool, common minerals such as Lyst.... Without them, you need to other planets to get prints for the cheap, common "skilling "textures such as Large Striped Cotton, and a host of other popular and useful textures.

With UL texture prints that's not so bad, but quite a number of the prints for fabrics and minerals are (L), so you need continuous supplies of these prints, and you 'd rather not pay big mark-up in auction for them (Big mark-up is inevitable as the prints have TT of 1 PED max, and the seller needs to cover auction fee. It was a mistake to ever make such cheap- and rapidly expended- items limited, IMO, but that's how it is :( ). Also, if texturing on Cyrene ever really takes off, then these (L) prints will become more rare, presumably...as one planet will be consuming alot of them, but not producing them

Knowing MA, these prints are probably all bundled in a package, so you have to take the useless Exa prints along with the essential prints? I really do think a lot of those misssing prints really are essential though. You just can't have a proper texture industry without them.

    jay :)

PS re. those (L) texture prints. Return from them is immensely variable, depending on type, but - to take one of the worst examples- it can takes about 6-7 full TT Lyst texture prints (or 14 random -sized prints) to make a single field's worth of Lyst texture. Please, please don't introduce any (L) texture prints!
