As the title suggests, the rifle Bevis Fire Fire has incorrect information regarding its potential 22.2 DPS. I have used the gun, parsed the DoT damage and the immediate damage, and I stand behind my results. If someone thinks my math is wrong, I encourage a reply showing me how 22.2 DPS on this gun is possible.

    For reference:

*It states that its DPS is 22.2 damage per second.

*Damage Interval at max skill is 9 - 18

*Range at max skill is 13.2

*Attacks per minute is 74 at max skill

*50% of damage dealt is done as a DoT, spread across 4 seconds

*If we were to calculate the damage per hit at its max possible value, 18, multiply by 74, and assuming every single shot hits, we get a damage per minute stat of 1332.

*Divide damage per minute of 1332 by 60 and we get 22.2 DPS, the DPS that the gun claims.

The problem, correct me if I am wrong, is that the damage from the Rifles DoT doesn't seem to stack. If you attack an enemy that already has had a DoT applied from your gun, it adds 1 second to the DoT duration that already exists. Leaving two possible outcomes:

    1) Shoot the gun, and let the dot run its course before firing again.

*The DPS in this scenario is very easy to do. Assuming max damage of 18, across 4 seconds. 18/4 = 4.5 DPS

    2) Shoot as fast as we can.

*The rifles immedate DPS is easy to calculate. We get 50% of each hit as immediate damage. Assume max damage of 9 each hit, across 74 hits per minute. Now divide by 60, to get total damage per second of 11.1.

*The DoT damage is even easier. The first time we hit, assuming max damage, we get 9 damage as a DoT over 4 seconds. Divide that by 4 and we get a damage per second of 2.25. Subsequent shots that merely add time wont change the damage per second. When the DoT fades, we add a new one. Again, the DPS is unchanged.

    *Option 1 absolute max DPS: 18 damage /4 seconds = 4.5 DPS
*Option 2 absolute max DPS: 11.1 Immedate DPS + DPS from DoT of 2.25 = 13.35 DPS

According to my math, the absolute total possible DPS of this Rifle, assuming we never miss, and do max damage every time, is 13.35, a significantly lower number than what the rifle says.

I know this may not seem like a big deal to some players, but when i saw this for sale in the AH for a bid option of 400 PED, and saw the listed DPS of 22.2, and the only way to reach that number is if the DoTs stacked, I figured the DoTs stacked.

Im a bit annoyed at this tbh. I based a financial decision of 400 PED on the assumption that the 22.2 DPS was accurate. I would never have paid 400 PED for a gun that has no tiers, 13.35 DPS, and a max range of 13.2.

To be clear, I feel the rifle is working as intended, and the DPS is what was intended as well. I think the 22.2 DPS listed in the stat block was reached by using a formulae that works for most guns, and the fact that it is different for this gun was overlooked. I think the DPS stat block of the rifle should be updated to accurately reflect the potential damage

I put this here in this forum because its a Cyrene based weapon, let me know if I should have put it someplace else.

As well, there is an annoying graphical and sound glitch. To replicate this, simply use the Rifle on autofire till something dies, and sometimes the sound and visual wont go away. this is pretty Minor though in comparison to what i posted above. I can upload a small video of the glitch if needed.

Did you account for spray damage? You can spray damage on 5 mobs at a time, unlike other weapons.

I didn't check for spray damage, I'll do a test on that when I return to Caly. Depending on how much damage hits other mobs (DoT only? Immediate and DoT?), it would definitely boost the DPS numbers in the above post.

Wondering: Is the 22.2 DPS listed in the stat window taking potential AOE damage from spray into consideration? If it does then I would recommend updating the weapon to reflect its AOE potential. Launcher weapons clearly indicate they do AOE damage, something similar could be added here.

I will re-test the weapon, and retract my post if, after testing, the weapon is capable of reaching the 22.2 DPS it claims by hitting multiple enemies.

    Hey Elric91,

This weapon has existed, I believe, since launch and @Spawn brings up a good point to mention about the spray damage (I would call it a sweep weapon). I do think that in part accounts for the lower DPS from the in game information, however I need to follow up with MA about this as it’s been awhile since I’ve looked closely.

For example, on CyreneSecrets.com, they have the real DPS listed around 15.42 DPS:

I’m not sure how it’s been calculated here but I’d assume it’s based on single target damage.

As for the sound and particles, this might be a quirk of this weapon type, as sweep weapons don’t function the same way as normal weapons. It’s something that I can ask the team to look at, but I’m not sure what improvements we can make with this weapon type.

I’ll be interested to hear your feedback after testing yourself across multiple mobs, and we can make sure that there’s nothing technically wrong with the weapon with MA in the meantime.

    Cheers,
    Kris

Thanks for the reply. I took a small break, and will do some more testing on low level enemies.
