Yo folks. I am pretty new here at cyreneforum. At least my third atempt to sign in was successful ;-/

I live at Calypso. But i love the Imperium Spec Lancer soooo much. The idea was, to make a RL 3D-print of it for my RL desktop ;-) You may read the full story at PCF:

I would like to contact Cyrene staff regarding the copyright-thingy. I don't want to do illegal things. It would be cool if someone from official Cyrene could post here, how to handle this issue.

    Hey Jamira!

Thank you for your compliments, the 3D team we have at Planet Cyrene are a bunch of hardworking and talented individuals and will appreciate your sentiments. I also think you have done some great work here re-creating this in 3D.

    As for your question:
I don't know if this is an issue or not, many games have fan art. I will look into this matter and see if there are any issues.

    Cheers,
    Kris

Thank you for your fast response, Kris. There is a second part at my request. It seems I will buy a 3D-printer next weeks. If I print this model for me and post pictures of it, some folks will ask me if they can have a model too. I estimate the material costs will be something between 5 and 8 Euro. But I have to pay for the printer too. I would like to sell for bit more than the poor material and shipping costs. Now we are at the border from fan art to kinda commercial use. Therefore the second part of my request is: Am I allowed to sell such models to others? The last answer, I got from MA regarding their stuff, was no.

Well, shouldn't be that problem. Maximum size of printed parts is at ~250x150x120 mm ... something around this. you must glue all this thousands parts. Material costs are at 30 Euro/kg (~38 $). But I am pretty sure you would get sales discount when you order 4000 kg for the model of the Pitbull.

^ I love this idea! It would be so cool if we could have more RL items in the Cyrene loot pool. T-Shirts would be awesome and we could have a contest for a T-Shirt design that was they arnt fruity looking, but that would be sweet id most def sport a Cyrene T-Shirt around. And it could have the Cyrene forum web site on the back that way it advertises also for Cyrene when we are out in public. I go to college and I'm certain that a cool T-Shirt with the web-site and the words REAL CASH ECONOMY would spark tons of interest and possibly get us new players.

Well, I am at a serious stage meanwhile. Let's see how this 3D-printer-story will end up. But my model is close to be finished:

It's not easy to do this. Since the 3D-geometry ingame is more or less optimized for good performance in an online game (to say: very rough) you will have several problems with making a good looking RL model. It's a lot of work!

@Jamira, there are 3D printing materials shop which you can purchase in bulk and avail discounts, too. I ordered ABS Saver-Pack – Super Rainbow from 3d2print. It’s such a steal because I got 12 spools of ABS filament and free shipping.
